Anna Helene Paquin galleryAnna Helene Paquin is one of the most illustrious actresses of the present genre in the realm of the United States of America and is an Academy Award winner. She has also been nominated for the Emmy and Golden Globe and hails from New Zealand though she was born in Canada. It was her spectacular performance in the film The Piano that brought her to the limelight and also to the attentions of the international film industry and the media.

Moreover, it was this film that earned her the first time an Academy Award for the Best Supporting Actress, as the second youngest winner in the recorded history of the Award. Though she was born in Canada but was moved to New Zealand when she was at the age of four. For her childhood it was assumed that she would incline in the future to the entertainment industry owing to her great interest in playing viola along with cello and piano.

Along with this she was also proficient in various forms of gymnastics, ballet, swimming and also downhill skiing, but there was no such inclination to acting in that age. However her debut happened at the time of her taking part in the open audition for the film The Piano. On that audition it was by sheer coincidence that she accompanied her sister. But her smart performance regarding the monologue about Flora, the leading character's father made a good impression on the director resulting in her selection among 5000 candidates.

The release of the film in the year 1993 was widely acclaimed by critics and also won prizes at a number of film festivals, establishing Anna as a celebrity of the future. But since her family was not interested to continue her acting career she declined to perform in the following movies. But it was in 1996 when she acted in two films.

While the first one was in a minuscule role as young Jane in Jane Eyre, the second was in the leading role of a young girl in Fly Away Home, who following the death of her mother fins solace in taking care of the orphaned goose chicks. It is from this time she has never looked back. Recently, in July 2007, she received an Emmy award nomination for the Supporting Actress In A Miniseries Or A Movie.
